Bible Online Learner helps translators

Reverend John Lekolo is a pastor and supervises several local churches. He is also working with Bible Translation & Literacy (BTL) East Africa and the driving force behind the Samburu language Bible translation project.
John successfully started his life-long learning of Biblical Hebrew In January 2026 and is learning very well. In the future he will no doubt become an important trainer for other translators, and perhaps also teachers, pastors and lay people.

“It has been a very exciting experience for me,” John says. He points out that learning Biblical Hebrew now helps him to understand details in the source language to assist him in his translation work. He can read the words and more easily apply the right meaning in the translation work.

It has helped John to use TheWell

John started Biblical Hebrew in January. I gave him TheWell box in order to test its usefulness on the ground in rural communities in Kenya.

The combination of having both online and offline access to Bible Online Learner and the course material worked very well for him. TheWell box has helped him to work and learn in a context where there at times is no electricity and internet connectivity is a challenge.

We now have 6 boxes in use in Kenya and will evaluate the strength of this solution for the projects.
